At COMO Juneteenth Parade on Saturday, the United States Tiger Veterans Foundation awarded commemorative medals and free water to Black veterans, later extending honors at a Hy-Vee on Trimble Road.

The event surprised recipients with recognitions including the Sgt. James Shipley Valor Medal.

Two Columbia nonprofits received a $47,500 grant from Veterans United Foundation on Friday — $37,500 for the Farmers Market to boost healthy food access and $10,000 for the Veterans Mental Health Council to distribute 600 firearm locks.

The Farmers Market will receive its check at 11 a.m. Saturday, June, 27.

Downtown Columbia hosted the Juneteenth parade on June 20, 2026, featuring Miss Boone County, city officials, and local groups in floats, dance troupes, and community outreach to honor history and unity.

Stephens College’s Women in Trades program has received a $30,000 multi-year grant from the ESS Foundation to expand pre-apprenticeship training and support services for women entering skilled trades.

The program will receive $15,000 this year and $15,000 next year to boost workforce readiness.

At Columbia's Activity and Recreation Center, SAVE-A-LIFE will offer naloxone education and free training on Wednesday, June 24 from noon to 1 p.m. at 1701 Ash St as local health partners help teach attendees how to reverse opioid overdoses.
