CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Columbia police are searching for Daylon Logan, charged with stealing a U-Haul truck reported stolen on May 28 and fleeing officers on June 3 when the vehicle sped away near Paris Road and North Williams Street—he escaped on foot after a short chase near East Walnut Street. KRCG
- ➤ A Columbia man named Daylon Logan has been charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing a stop, and resisting arrest after he allegedly stole a U-Haul box truck with Arizona plates that sped north on Paris Road, ran a stop sign, and then stopped before he ran from officers— a passenger reported she did not know the truck was stolen. - ➤ Boone County prosecutors charged Antonio Earl Bates with first degree rape after DNA evidence tied him to a July 24 assault on the 800 block of Ann Street at 2:54 a.m.—he is not from Columbia and has ties to St. Louis. KRCG
- ➤ Natalia Phillips, 44, was charged with selling drugs near a school after officers found 11 Vyvanse pills during a June 12 traffic stop and later conducted a controlled buy at her home for 21 additional pills — prosecutors allege she distributed a controlled substance in a protected location and she is held without bond at Boone County Jail. - ➤ An 18-year-old man—Chase Moore—and three others allegedly broke into Centralia High School this week, causing property damage and stealing items as Moore faces second-degree burglary, institutional vandalism, first-degree trespassing and stealing charges while held on a $5,000 bond with school restrictions, and police detained a 19-year-old man and three juveniles after surveillance video showed the group switching to masks near the agriculture wing. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Contractors will replace the elevator flooring at the Fifth and Walnut and Tenth and Cherry parking garages in downtown Columbia on Thursday, June 19th, with work planned from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weather permitting. The southeast elevator at Fifth and Walnut and the only elevator at Tenth and Cherry will be out of service—customers should use ADA first-floor parking spaces. KOMU 8
- ➤ Missouri mayors defended the right to protest after Gov. Mike Kehoe activated the National Guard on Thursday ahead of planned events like the No Kings Rally. Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe said the city is working with event organizers and law enforcement + local groups to keep protests safe. ABC 17
