COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local Motion will host its 10th annual Bikes and Brews fundraiser today from CycleX at 201 N Providence from 5:15 to 8 p.m. + the event follows a friendly downtown route stopping at local businesses. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door + the final stop is at Broadway Brewery from 7:45 to 8 p.m.  Columbia Daily Tribune
  • The city is hosting a block party at Douglass Park to connect with residents and start a summer series of events — five more block parties will take place later in the summer.  Columbia Missourian

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcycle crash occurred Monday afternoon on Route K just east of County Road 657 near Laddonia where a 42-year-old man who was not wearing a helmet was seriously injured after his motorcycle flipped and overturned—he was airlifted to University Hospital while a 46-year-old passenger sustained moderate injuries.  KOMU 8

  • Nourish Cafe & Market has partnered with Sensitively Sweet, an allergen-free bakery in Nixa, to offer daily blueberry lemon and banana chocolate chip muffins free of gluten, soy, corn, refined sugar, preservatives, & inflammatory oils. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 81 into law Tuesday, a law that strengthens public safety by expanding background checks, extending the Line of Duty Compensation Act, authorizing fee collections, and updating firework laws to meet national safety standards—one of its six key parts—and also creates Trey's Law to limit nondisclosure agreements—another focus of the measure—and aims to protect both law enforcement and victims. The bill was sponsored by Sen. Kurtis Gregory and Rep. Timothy Taylor.  ABC 17
  • Columbia City Council held a second office hours meeting Monday to explain that new executive orders could threaten federal funding and require changes to the city’s equity language and strategic plan. City officials said further sessions are planned today at 5:30 p.m., Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at 5:30 p.m.—the council will revisit the issues at its June 16 meeting.  KRCG

  • Registration is open for the 8th annual Hope for Heroes 5k, a three-mile race at Cosmo Park that benefits the Food Bank's veterans programs + check-in begins at 6:45 a.m., the opening ceremony is at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday with a $35 fee per runner and a virtual option available.  Inside Columbia
