- ➤ Weather forced Art in the Park to close early on Saturday—yet the event resumed on Sunday so local residents could support local artists. Columbia Missourian
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Columbia Fire Department reported that firefighters controlled an overnight house fire on the 4900 block of Fallbrook Drive at 8:22 p.m., and a search found no occupants while three firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion + the Fire Marshal Battalion will investigate the cause. KOMU 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Early Sunday morning, Columbia police responded to gunshots on the 800 block of East Walnut Street in downtown Columbia—one person sustained minor injuries and three vehicles were damaged by gunfire—and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues. KOMU 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dozens of MU employees shared frustrations about low wages, high parking costs, and poor working conditions at a town hall hosted by LiUNA Local 955 on Friday evening—many said rising living costs forced some to leave Columbia and called for better pay and safety measures when the UM System Board of Curators did not attend. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Public Works has begun revising its Complete Streets policy to improve road safety and accessibility—collaborating with CMT and using a $350,000 grant from the Safe Streets and Roads for All program. The project will include public outreach through surveys, open houses, and field events this Fall and Winter, with a draft policy set to be shared in Spring and City Council review in Fall. KOMU 8
