COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Good Dads non-profit helps fathers be more involved with their families and offers programs for at-risk dads plus school and workplace programs. Founded in Springfield by Dr. Jennifer Baker in 2015, the group now has offices in Columbia and Kansas City.  KRCG

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Columbia firefighters rescued drivers stuck in floodwaters on June 3rd when severe thunderstorms and heavy rain caused rising water near Paris Road and Vandiver Drive around 6 p.m. and again near South Rolling Hills Road and Sugar Grove Road before 11:48 p.m. with no injuries reported.  KRCG

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sipz Soda in Nifong announced its June specials on Instagram Tuesday — the new summer drinks include Malibu Splash made with coconut, strawberry and coconut cream with Sprite, Fizzberry Fusion with orange, raspberry and watermelon flavoring with Coke, and Ocean Time with blue curacao and green apple flavoring with Mountain Dew and lemonade. The flavors will be available for a limited time for customers to try.  Inside Columbia
  • Pasta La Fata, a restaurant on Rodgers Street, is hosting a raffle to celebrate its upcoming three-year anniversary by awarding one lucky customer a full year of free eats. Customers receive one entry for each $25 spent during a 30-day period and the winner will be drawn on July 1 + the prize is $15 worth of meals each day the restaurant is open for a year.  Inside Columbia

CRIME NEWS

  • A witness said that on May 21 a Columbia man, 28-year-old Zachary Wainscott, hit a victim and then circled back to hit the same person again near Coopers Landing, and Boone County deputies arrested him—he is held without bond and faces charges of First Degree Domestic Assault and Armed Criminal Action.  KRCG

  • Vault at the Tiger Hotel & Skylark Bookshop are hosting a grown-up bookworm event with craft cocktails, tasty desserts and a book sale at the Vault at 7:30 p.m. Attendees can join Columbia’s literary community to enjoy creative conversation and a unique evening experience.  Inside Columbia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Columbia will host two open house events in June for residents to share feedback on its planned Complete Streets policy update — one event is at the Activity and Recreation Center from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday and the other at City Hall Conference Room 1 A/B from 5-6:30 p.m. on June 12.  KOMU 8
  • Former Governor Roger B. Wilson has launched a series of four golf tournaments to raise money for the 10-33 Benevolent Fund, which provides quick financial help to families of Missouri public servants killed in the line of duty. The tournaments—from June 25 at Tanglewood Golf Course to September 8 at Columbia Country Club—will cover immediate expenses and honor the legacy of fallen officers.  COMO Magazine
