ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA reported gas prices dropped 13-15 cents across Missouri but diesel remains high at $5.10 a gallon + higher diesel costs may push grocery and retail prices upward. Midwest Retail and Grocery Alliance CEO Dan Shaul said local retailers are working to curb expenses. ABC 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ 573 Mamba Academy held its first fundraiser Saturday morning at MizzouRec to raise money for uniforms, fees, travel and gym rentals; the event featured a basketball game between seventh and eighth graders and community ambassadors (former college players) along with halftime challenges, a raffle and a silent auction. - ➤ Columbia Public Schools named Virginia Tate the new principal of Hickman High School for the 2026-27 school year. Tate, the assistant principal at Rock Bridge High School (a former English teacher from Columbia, South Carolina), will replace Mary Grupe who moved to a district administrative role. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 4 from 6 to 7 p.m., Columbia Public Works will host an open meeting in Room 1C at City Hall to discuss traffic calming measures on Hoylake Drive following a study on speeding vehicles, inviting residents to share in-person feedback or comment online by June 19. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Columbia Regional Airport will launch a shuttle service tomorrow from its new south parking lot to the terminal; shuttles will run daily from 4 a.m. until midnight. The service follows recent parking expansions and is set up ahead of Allegiant Air’s first flight Wednesday. ABC 17

- ➤ The eighth annual Missouri Walk of Neurofibromatosis took place at Stephens Lake Park on May 30 — drawing many residents to raise money and awareness for the genetic disorder. Organizer Christina Thomas said the event aims to build local support for a future NF clinic. KRCG
