ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters returned to a house fire early Friday morning in northern Boone County after battling flames through the night—crews left at 5:15 a.m. and returned just before 6 a.m. to find more smoke—while working with a limited water supply from few hydrants nearby. ABC 17
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Boone County Sheriff's Department warned residents about scammers using forged documents—fake federal arrest warrants and Mobile Escort Orders—and said to hang up on suspicious calls. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation said it detected a cyberattack on its servers earlier this year that exposed files with HIPAA-protected personal and health information such as names, addresses, and benefit details of current and former employees. The department is working with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts, sending written notices and offering credit monitoring – it advises affected individuals to review their financial and medical records carefully. - ➤ Columbia received the Missouri Blue Shield designation from the Missouri Department of Public Safety (recognizing its strong work in crime prevention and community trust). The award makes the city eligible for state grants to support police training and equipment. KOMU 8
- ➤ The Columbia Fire Department is asking for 12 new Firefighter I/II positions at a total cost of $1.1 million in next year’s budget—this change will let each fire truck have four firefighters. The city manager will release the proposed budget in July while the department also requests funds for boat equipment and supplies for a new fire station that will serve east side neighborhoods.
