ECONOMY NEWS

  • Columbia Regional Airport will launch nonstop flights to Orlando and Destin next week as new parking and shuttle rules take effect to ease travel for passengers. The updated services aim to streamline airport operations.  Columbia Missourian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbia Public Schools named Virginia Tate as the new principal at Hickman High School on Friday. Tate served as an assistant principal at Rock Bridge High School and will replace Mary Grupe who moved to the district's central office.  ABC 17
  • Columbia's Cub Scout Dinotopia Day Camp 2026 drew its largest crowd since the pandemic as local Scouts traded classrooms for casting rods at a nearby day camp event.  Columbia Missourian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • May's rare blue moon will peak on Sunday at 3:45 a.m. CT as a micromoon that appears smaller because it is farthest from Earth. The National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies for much of Missouri, though Springfield and Joplin may see less cloud cover + clearer views.  Columbia Daily Tribune

  • Contractors from Columbia Public Works will start treating 55 city streets with Reclamite at 6 a.m. Monday to extend pavement life, and lane closures will affect travel from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on workdays through July.  KOMU 8
