- ➤ Columbia’s Habitat for Humanity ReStore hosted the grand opening of the Como Craftcycle Collective yesterday with a ribbon cutting by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce at 4:00 p.m.—the new shop repurposes leftover craft supplies and plans to sell art kits at Art in the Park on June 7-8 at Stephens Lake Park. - ➤ After six years, the Columbia Memorial Day parade returned to downtown on Monday morning and was revived by Gold Star mother Sherry Wyatt—who lost her son in Afghanistan—to honor veterans and Gold Star families with a memorial service and wreath laying outside the Boone County Courthouse. Hundreds of residents gathered to pay respects to those who gave their lives defending our freedom. KRCG

- ➤ Authorities arrested Kayley Rae Birnbaum, 35, and Michael Thomas Birnbaum, 28, from Springfield for the 2021 murder of Columbia man Cody Garrett after Michael confessed on May 25—evidence links the duo to planning the ambush at Truman Lake Mountain Bike Park and benefiting from a life insurance policy. - ➤ An 18-year-old boy was shot and killed Tuesday night on the 1300 block of Frideriki Drive in East Columbia after a disturbance led to a police standoff — officers with guns drawn have not yet released any suspect information. KOMU 8
- ➤ A fatal shooting occurred Tuesday night on North Frideriki Drive in Boone County, and a 16-year-old suspect was detained—facing charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. KOMU 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools held a meeting Monday to plan long-range improvements focusing on life and safety—upgrading classrooms to support modern technology is a top priority. - ➤ Missouri confirmed it has agreed to share sensitive SNAP data with the USDA after receiving a letter on May 6 that asks for names, Social Security numbers, addresses and benefit totals from records beginning January 1.
