- ➤ Rainy conditions and high gas prices did not slow travel this Memorial Day weekend as one Columbia travel center recorded over 1,000 visitors before noon on Saturday. AAA expected 45.1 million people to travel nationwide while local residents took advantage of early school release and fuel stayed near $2.99 at most stations. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Gold Star mom Sherry Wyatt is reviving the Memorial Day parade today in downtown Columbia to honor Gold Star families. The parade will start at 10 a.m.—a wreath-laying ceremony will follow at the Boone County Courthouse with several local Gold Star families serving as grand marshals. KOMU 8
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday evening, a 12-year-old boy from Climax Springs was seriously injured when his 2002 Suzuki ATV left the road on Dodds Camp Road at Prospect Place in Camden County and struck a tree in a creek bed, and he was taken to Lake Regional Hospital while a 17-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. - ➤ Columbia Public Schools honored 1,422 graduates from Battle, Hickman, Douglass, and Rock Bridge High Schools in ceremonies held Friday at the Missouri Theatre and Saturday at Mizzou Arena—students earned over $14.5 million in scholarships for college. KOMU 8
