- ➤ Columbia Parks and Recreation is dedicating and opening the Cosmo Bike Park today in Cosmo Park at 1910 Parkside Drive, funded by a voter-approved Park Sales tax and donations from the Frank W. Morris Memorial Trust, Columbia Missouri Trail Association, and Veterans United Foundation. The park features an asphalt pump track, mountain bike skills course, bike playground, cyclocross event space, shelter, and parking lot that serves as the trailhead for Rhett’s Run Mountain Bike Trail, and the ceremony starts at 5 p.m. with a program at 5:20 p.m. while parking is available at Antimi Sports Complex at 1615 W. - ➤ Police said a road rage incident near a McDonald's on Nifong Boulevard led two drivers to fire shots at each other, resulting in the shooting death of Columbia man Derek Gonzalez, 32, at about 12:40 p.m. on May 18 — after interviews, the county prosecutor decided not to file charges. - ➤ Estelle Kerns, 35, was charged with statutory rape in Boone County after a teenager reported repeated unwanted contact (she was booked Tuesday) and her initial court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon (as per court records). KOMU 8

- ➤ Resume Now's report shows that 13 jobs paying at least $50,000 a year are available without a college degree, noting that only 31.9% of Missouri adults have a bachelor's degree compared to 38% nationwide. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Columbia is working to restore power to damaged equipment at its recycling facility after an EF-1 tornado destroyed the building on April 20. Demolition is underway and debris removal is progressing well, and the city will restart part of the recycling program once it determines how much equipment can be saved—plans may include a temporary cover for the machinery. - ➤ MoDOT said a record number of work zones will slow drivers this Memorial Day weekend as it begins its busiest construction season ever—drivers are urged to plan ahead and slow down. In Columbia, Interstate 70 eastbound is narrowed between mile markers 137 and 144 while U.S. 63 is reduced to one lane each way between the Broadway overpass and the Conley Road underpass. KOMU 8
- ➤ Boone County Emergency Management has upgraded its outdoor warning siren system to use CommanderOne software so that sirens will sound only in areas under tornado or severe thunderstorm warnings — the system connects directly with the National Weather Service and local networks to reduce public warning fatigue.
