COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, nine local fathers walked across the stage after completing Good Dads 2.0 and Within My Reach courses that build fatherhood skills and healthy relationships — family and friends honored their effort as a keynote speaker urged them to be positive role models.  Columbia Daily Tribune
  • The Columbia Farmers Market will start its Wednesday schedule next week and run each week from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ash Street pavilion until Aug. 26.  Columbia Missourian
  • Volunteers from Veterans United Home Loans worked Tuesday to install new furniture at Patriot Place Apartments, a supportive housing community for at-risk veterans. The project will continue through May 21 as the Columbia Housing Authority + Veterans United Foundation partner to enhance living spaces.  KRCG

  • Allegiant Air will start a new flight from Columbia Regional Airport to St. Pete-Clearwater in November. The third Florida route connects local travelers with sun-soaked shores.  Columbia Missourian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Following graduation ceremonies today, local groups Love Columbia and the William Guitar Little Foundation are promoting The DeBruce Foundation’s Graduation Toolkit—a free online set of tools for high school and college graduates planning their careers. The toolkit lets graduates identify skills, explore career options, update resumes and build networking.  Columbia Daily Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Strong storms caused fallen trees and rising waters to block walking and bike trails, city officials said. Crews will begin removing debris when weather permits (cyclists are urged to avoid wet, crushed limestone trails).  KRCG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbia Regional Airport will add a parking shuttle service in June to connect the new parking area with the terminal as part of phase one improvements (which include 250 new parking spaces and upgrades like a new boarding bridge and deicing pad).  KOMU 8
  • Columbia’s Go COMO will restore full fixed bus routes on Tuesday, May 26 after using combined routes because of staffing shortages. Six routes will run weekdays from 6:25 a.m. to 6:40 a.m. plus reassigned MU Tiger Line drivers support the trial service, which may revert if staffing drops.  ABC 17

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Columbia Youth Football League has launched a feeder program linking youth teams with Rock Bridge, Battle, and Hickman High Schools. The six-week season will start late July at Cosmo Park (which benefits from recent field improvements) to build team culture and train future coaches.  KOMU 8
