- ➤ Gary Pinkel hosted his seventh-annual Par 3 Golf Tournament Monday at the Old Hawthorne in Columbia to raise funds for his foundation that helps Missouri kids with cancer, disabilities and social economic challenges. Former players and coaches attended the event and bolstered his long-running fundraiser+ his work continues to support kids in need. ABC 17
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A road rage incident led to a fatal shooting at a McDonald's on Nifong Boulevard in south Columbia on Sunday at 1 p.m.—32-year-old Derek Gonzalez died at a hospital while another person was treated for gunshot wounds, and a suspect was released without charges. ABC 17
- ➤ A Columbia man was fatally shot and another injured near -Nifong McDonald's- on May 18th at about -12:40 p.m.-, police said. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ John Lonce Williamson, a Columbia man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend during a 2023 altercation that left her with a gunshot wound in her neck, is set to face trial this week. Columbia Missourian
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A man won $100,000 from a 300X scratcher ticket purchased at Midway Auto Truck Plaza in Columbia — he later claimed his prize at Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City. KRCG
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the UM System Board of Curators finalized a 5% undergraduate tuition increase for the 2025-26 academic year—raising tuition by about $20 to $25 per credit hour at campuses in Columbia, Kansas City, St. Louis and Rolla. Graduate rates will rise between 3% and 5% as the system invests in new courses, better facilities, and expanded research opportunities. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Parking citations in Columbia jumped after the city switched enforcement from the police to Public Works, with 4,829 tickets issued in April compared to 93 the previous year—meter, garage and ParkMobile revenues also rose by 29%. Public Works spokesman John Ogan said the city plans to replace the nearly 70-year-old meter system in about three years using funds from meter payments and parking passes rather than ticket fees.
