ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Fire Department crews worked Sunday morning to extinguish a large fire in an under-construction home in the 500 block of Dustin Drive (firefighters used a defensive approach by working from a fire engine basket) (the fire was put out around 8 a.m. with no injuries reported). ABC 17
- ➤ Columbia firefighters responded to a fully involved house fire on the 500 block of Dustin Drive early Saturday morning and had the blaze under control by 8:40 a.m.—nine units including five companies arrived, no injuries were reported, and officials are investigating the cause. KOMU 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two people were injured in a shooting at a McDonald's on Nifong Boulevard and Providence Road—one was left with serious injuries. Columbia Missourian

- ➤ At MU graduation weekend, 5,954 students took part in ceremonies and celebrated their big achievements—bringing joy to graduates and their families. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missouri lawmakers ended the session in controversy after dropping a stadium funding bill and $500 million for state projects, raising the possibility of a special session—Governor Mike Kehoe said these moves will affect many Missourians. They also removed an emergency clause from a paid sick leave measure so that mandatory leave will end on Aug 28—House Speaker Jonathan Patterson noted workers will retain their accrued hours. KOMU 8
- ➤ Today, Columbia City Council will consider a resolution to shield City Manager De'Carlon Seewood from legal action when signing federal funding contracts — a move tied to changes in the city’s equity policies while also voting on a measure for the police to apply for Blue Shield City status. A public hearing will review a $5.4 million sewer extension in the Midway area along with a second hearing on $250,000 for improvements at Strawn Park — a work session with labor union representatives will follow before the regular meeting. - ➤ Missouri Task Force One returned to Columbia Sunday after a two-day deployment to north St. Louis where deadly storms caused widespread damage and power outages. The 88-member team used drones—key for damage mapping—to help coordinate recovery efforts in affected neighborhoods. ABC 17
