COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Emergency responders met at Columbia College this past weekend for the inaugural All-Star EMS Conference hosted by The Bryant Gladney Foundation to honor Assistant Fire Chief Bryant Gladney who was killed in 2021. They practiced EMS techniques at hands-on training stations and heard national speakers on trauma care, airway management and pre-hospital treatment — preparing them to better serve the community.  KOMU 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Doctoral candidates at Mizzou were honored in a hooding ceremony held Friday at Mizzou Arena as mentors placed academic hoods on them, sparking cheers from the audience. The event celebrated the graduates' achievements and marked an important milestone in their academic journey.  Columbia Missourian
  • On Saturday, over 6,000 students at the University of Missouri celebrated graduation as weekend ceremonies honored many fields of study while some planned to start jobs, internships, or further schooling. Graduation events will finish today—national data shows a steady 4.2% unemployment rate and a 15.3% rate for new bachelor's graduates.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbia City Council will vote on more than 30 items Monday at 7 p.m. at City Hall, including a $5.4m sewer extension, a $4.7m salt dome for winter salt distribution, a MoDOT cost-share plan for pedestrian safety, paid studies for power line and transportation improvements, and a federal grant compliance measure—critics say the DEI elements may be weakened. The council will either approve or postpone these projects and initiatives.  ABC 17
