ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A crash closed a part of W Business Loop 70 between Creasy Springs and Schwabe Ln early Friday morning—witnesses saw a motorcycle and a grey car with side damage while Columbia police blocked the roadway. ABC 17
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 35-year-old motorcycle rider died after being thrown from his bike when a 48-year-old driver failed to yield while turning into a parking lot on Business Loop 70 West Friday morning—Columbia police are investigating the crash. KRCG
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Missouri began its commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 16th for the class of 2025 at Mizzou Arena, Jesse Auditorium, and Hearnes Center. Free parking was available on campus through May 18th—heavy traffic was expected downtown. ABC 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe said he will call a special session to work on a financial package that may build new stadiums—or renovate current ones—to help keep the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals in Missouri as their leases expire in 2031. He hopes the session will start in early June after lawmakers ended the regular session early without voting on the proposal. KRCG
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today during National Hospital Week—Boone Health celebrated several awards highlighting its patient care and employee satisfaction received since September. The hospital earned the 2025 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, maintained a Top 100 Hospital ranking since 2023, and is the only facility in Missouri to receive a Five-Star award from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. - ➤ The Missouri Show Me State Games will be held with the Senior Games from June 5 to 8 and the main events from July 18 to 20 plus 25 to 27, drawing over 20,000 participants to several venues in Columbia.
