EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Boys & Girls Club will open its new Tween Center on June 1, funded by a $30,000 donation from Veterans United Foundation + the center will serve middle school students with new programming and support. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ On April 21, YouthBuild trainees demonstrated construction skills and teamwork at the Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City—sharing personal stories and engaging with state officials to highlight workforce training needs. Columbia Daily Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers can now use the new roundabout interchange at I-70 and U.S. Route 54 in Kingdom City this week, according to MoDot. Construction crews will remove temporary signals and shift traffic overnight May 13 — though the ramp from Route 54 onto westbound I-70 will remain closed through mid-June. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia’s Office of Sustainability will present its updated climate plan to City Council on June 15 (revisiting local strategies) to set a clear path for future environmental actions. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Drivers on I-70 between mile markers 144 and 149 will face lane restrictions starting overnight May 12 as crews shift traffic from old lanes to new ones secured by a temporary concrete barrier — the ramp to Exit 144 will be closed for months, so use Exit 148 instead. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia City Council is reviewing a request to install brown 'Historic Hwy 40' signs along Business Loop 70 to mark the road's 100th anniversary. The 23 intersections will have the new signs manufactured and installed by fall & honor the legacy of one of the nation’s first cross-country roads. KOMU 8
- ➤ MoDOT will start work Monday, May 18 to expand Missouri Boulevard between South Ten Mile and Wildwood Drives (near Planet Fitness) by adding a center turn lane, traffic signal and sidewalk extension. Work will run Monday through Friday until November, which may cause lane closures and delays. KRCG
