CRIME NEWS

  • Columbia Police arrested Kieran Piersee, 18, on charges of first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon after a Friday evening shooting on Moss Street in which a 32 year old was injured with a gunshot wound that is not life threatening and is expected to recover at a local hospital—investigation remains ongoing.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia police arrested four men during a violent week—18-year-old Kieran Piersee was held without bond after allegedly shooting a man on Moss Street on Friday, 19-year-old Ramelus Bradel was charged for a domestic incident at Forest Village Apartments, and Antonio Watson with Rodney L. Hayes II were arrested following a Wednesday standoff—while court hearings remain pending.  ABC 17
  • An 18 year old from Columbia was arrested after police responded at 8 p.m. on Friday to reports of shots fired on Moss Street, where they found a 32 year old who was treated for gunshot wounds that were not life threatening.  KRCG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MU held a Senior Sendoff for graduating students, and they received a bag of popcorn and a beer can from Longboat Brewing Co — a token marking their transition from college life.  Columbia Missourian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hartsburg in southern Boone County received a $50K Clean Water Engineering Report grant from the state’s Clean Water Revolving Fund to study its wastewater treatment system and plan needed upgrades—officials say the report will set guideposts for current needs and future growth with a facility plan due by January. A similar grant was given to Belle, Missouri.  Columbia Daily Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbia council has directed a public engagement plan to consider water rate changes recommended by Stantec Consulting that could lower fees for most residents while increasing charges for peak usage customers — the study measured the utility's full cost and set future revenue trends. The proposed changes will be debated in public hearings and are expected to be part of the September budget for fiscal year 2026.  Columbia Daily Tribune
