COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Armory in downtown Columbia is a historic New Deal project turned community center that offers free and low-cost programs for all ages—children, seniors, and others can join classes and field trips to local institutions. City residents may also request new programs to help connect with one another through these ongoing community services. COMO Magazine
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Boone County deputies arrested Dalton Perkins, 31, of Sturgeon after he shot a 56-year-old man in the back during a fight on Saturday evening—he now faces charges of Second Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action, and First Degree Domestic Assault. KRCG
- ➤ A Columbia man, Joshua A. Abrams, 23, was charged on Monday with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon—he is accused of firing in two separate shootings in Downtown Columbia in April and in north Columbia last week—and he remains in the Boone County Jail without bond. - ➤ A Sturgeon man, Daltron R. Perkins — 31 — was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree domestic assault on Monday after he shot a 56-year-old man during a fight at the 18900 block of Route NN in northern Boone County at about 8 p.m. Saturday and was arrested nearby. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Columbia City Council considered a proposal on Monday to add two fire battalion chief positions to the Columbia Fire Department budget for fiscal year 2025 to improve leadership and prepare for high-risk events—Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said recent emergencies have shown a need for stronger command. The department will spend the next two months setting up office space and support structures before filling the roles at an increased cost of $155,000. KOMU 8
