COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Columbia police arrested a 23-year-old man on Friday for shootings near Ninth Street and Broadway on April 13 and on Clark Lane on May 1, and Dalton Perkins was taken into custody in Boone County after a fatal shooting. A shuttle bus crash in Gasconade County injured 41 people on Saturday, and Sovereignty won the Kentucky Derby — while pesticide labeling ads stirred debate and Columbia’s Earth Day Festival returned downtown with over 200 booths. - ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Missouri hosted the 10th annual Big Derby Party at the Country Club of Missouri where over 150 community members dressed in Derby attire, enjoyed Southern food and live streaming of the race, and helped raise more than $45,000 for youth mentorship (supporting the recruitment, training, and matching of mentors with local children known as Littles). ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Boone County firefighters responded to a structure fire in Hallsville on Sunday night on the 5100 block of East Mount Zion Church Road—homeowners said everyone and their pets evacuated safely while six trucks and two ambulances were on scene. KOMU 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Columbia police arrested 23-year-old Joshua Abrams on Friday for first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and driving while intoxicated—charges linked to shootings on April 13 near Ninth Street and Broadway and May 1 in the 4700 block of Clark Lane. KOMU 8
