- ➤ The University of Missouri chess team hosted a simultaneous chess exhibition at Columbia Public Library Sunday — inviting 17 players to challenge Woman International Masters Annmarie Muetsch and Tea Gueci. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ High school girls in Boone County can apply for a free five-day summer camp on emergency management scheduled from June 1-5 at the county Emergency Communications Center. The camp offers hands-on activities like disaster simulations (and tours of government facilities) with applications due by 11:59 p.m. May 18. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Third to fifth grade students perform at the Missouri String Project spring recital as MU student teachers guide them in learning violin, viola and cello. The historic program strengthens musical skills and community bonds. Columbia Missourian
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers are advised today by the Missouri Department of Conservation to slow down as warmer spring weather prompts turtles (common snapping, ornate box, and three-toed box) to cross Missouri roads in search of food, mates, and nesting sites.
