CRIME NEWS

  • Two Pettis County deputies were shot early Friday morning while serving a search warrant on a drug investigation in the 27000 block of State Highway BB when a suspect fired his gun—one deputy returned fire without hitting the suspect—and the suspect was taken into custody as one deputy was released from a local hospital before 9:30 a.m. while the Pettis County R-V School District placed both schools under soft lockdown, halting bus pickups nearby.  ABC 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tariffs on imported materials are set to raise home renovation costs for local homeowners as prices for items like Italian marble and appliance parts could increase by around 25%—industry professionals say limited supply chain options force some makers to source locally even as uncertainties remain.  Columbia Daily Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Southern Boone School District announced that construction will begin next week on the new vocational and agriculture wing at Southern Boone High School and will continue through summer and fall; the wing will include two classrooms, lab space and a shop for hands-on learning. The project is funded by an $11.6 million bond issue—drivers are asked to exercise caution as the north fire lane closes and a new drive lane off Crump Lane directs traffic.  KOMU 8
