  • The newest portion of the 30-mile Perche Creek Trail connects the MKT Trail to Gillespie Bridge Road via a 200-foot bridge over Perche Creek + the trail is now open for pedestrians and cyclists.  Columbia Missourian
  • The renovated skate park at Douglass Park will reopen this week. The park has doubled in size — it now features five new concrete structures for skateboarders.  Columbia Missourian
  • True North is hosting its annual Little Black Dress Fundraiser Gala at the Columbia College Southwell Complex tomorrow from 6-10 p.m.—attendees will enjoy appetizers, wine, music, dining and discussions on support for survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, sex trafficking and stalking while individual tickets cost $80 and a reserved table for 10 costs $1,000.  Inside Columbia

  • Christy Bondurant of Wildflower Bread turned her sourdough hobby into a small business in Columbia—she began baking at home with organic ingredients to feed her family and now sells loaves, bagels, and other treats over Instagram. She plans to maintain a family-run operation with limited output—keeping the focus on quality and personal service.  Inside Columbia

CULTURE NEWS

  • Art in the Park has been a showcase for Columbia’s finest art since 1959 and brings together local artists who work in various mediums. The festival highlights traditional techniques and personal styles with artists like woodcarver Randy Mayes and ceramic artist Katie Barnes working in their studios—capturing the home spirit of our creative community.  Inside Columbia

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Columbia Fire Department announced it is phasing out a firefighting foam that contains PFAS chemicals because they harm soil and water — and the department has bought a safer alternative. CFD spokesperson Katherine Rodriguez said the new foam is both effective and much safer to use.  ABC 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mizzou alumnus Cot Fox has donated over $10 million to support cancer research at the university—his gift will fund renovations at the Veterinary Health Center and expand the Research Center for Human Animal Interaction after his dog and his father in law benefited from a drug developed at Mizzou.  Columbia Daily Tribune
