- ➤ The Beacon of Light Community Center — a new hub for education, recreation, meals and more — opened in northeast Columbia today to serve local residents. Officials say the center will host various programs in the coming months. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Fred Parry, former Columbia publisher, is renovating a 1914 Greek revival home on West Broadway to create Inspiration Home in honor of his late wife and support Love Columbia’s first-time homebuyer program. The project will finish by October and will offer community tours (updates via a QR code). KRCG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A proposed ordinance lets even-numbered addresses water lawns on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays while odd-numbered addresses water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (common areas on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays). Fines apply for violations, and the city plans a summer vote with the rule taking effect in 2027. KOMU 8
- ➤ Rolling roadblocks occurred on I-70 near the Missouri River as blasting took place yesterday at 2 p.m. between Boone County Route BB and the river; a similar blast planned for May 1 at 2 p.m. will trigger a 15-minute ramp closure. KOMU 8

- ➤ Free naloxone boxes stocked with overdose-reversal medication are available 24/7 at four Boone County fire stations, including one at 5881 S. Tom Bass Road in Columbia + the boxes will be refilled weekly, and a naloxone education event is scheduled for May 26 at The Blue Note. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Burrell Behavioral Health + Preferred Family Healthcare + Clarity Healthcare will rebrand as Centerstone to offer a unified approach to behavioral health services across mid-Missouri. The new name will update branding at multiple centers in the region. Columbia Missourian
