COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Early Monday morning, storms swept through Slater along Missouri 240, knocking out power, damaging a grain silo and trees, and prompting the Slater School District to cancel in-person classes in favor of AMI (alternative methods of instruction) as outages persist. KOMU 8
- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Missouri will host the Big Derby Party at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at the Country Club of Missouri in Columbia. Guests will enjoy Derby-themed food and drinks — a live auction, cigar draw, and encouraged stylish attire. KRCG
- ➤ Missouri families who own their farms for 100 consecutive years now have until May 15 to apply for Century Farm recognition. The deadline was extended after technical issues prevented some applications, and eligible farms must be at least 40 acres and continuously owned since at least Dec. 31, 1926. Columbia Daily Tribune

- ➤ Student data from MOScholars were exposed online today by the state treasurer's office - fueling a partisan debate over pausing enrollments while officials work to secure the system. Columbia Daily Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Strong storms on Monday afternoon caused power outages in several Mid-Missouri counties. At about 6:20 p.m., officials confirmed that 1,584 customers lost power in Randolph County with outages also reported in Cole, Osage, Miller, Monroe, Boone, and Howard counties, and Glasgow may be without power for two to three days.
