COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Just Between Friends Columbia is hosting the final day of its pop-up consignment event today at Columbia Sports Fieldhouse on Philips Farm Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the sale offers parents savings on children's products amid rising prices while donations benefit local foster care agencies and community assistance funds.  ABC 17
  • Locals gathered at the American Legion on Saturday to discuss the contract dispute between Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and MU Health Care as many said the coverage changes have affected thousands—attendees noted the missing Anthem representative and pressed for a quick resolution. The meeting, organized by LiUNA Local 955, allowed patients to ask direct questions and set the stage for upcoming wage negotiations with local groups.  ABC 17
  • Columbia's Earth Day festival, originally set for today in downtown Columbia—has been postponed to May 4 due to expected rain, according to the Columbia Earth Day Coalition’s Saturday post.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Locust Street Elementary School has named Samantha Adams (assistant principal at Mill Creek) as its new principal, and she will begin her role next school year. This change comes as the school prepares for the upcoming academic term.  Columbia Missourian
  • Watson—one of 344 graduates—received his diploma on Saturday at Columbia College's spring commencement as he celebrated his perseverance.  Columbia Missourian

  • Bobby Lee, a recent MU graduate, boosted Mayor Buffaloe’s reelection campaign with his energy and fresh ideas while working late nights to connect with local voters. He will start his master’s program at MU and travel to Oxford for policy-based classes as he plans a long-term career in politics.  KOMU 8
