  • Columbia’s Farmers Market reopened its Double Up Food Bucks program that matches SNAP funding for up to $25 per day—shoppers must show their EBT card at the Oasis booth to get purple tokens accepted until August 31.  Inside Columbia

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • West Worley Street was partially closed Wednesday morning after a car flipped into a ditch and one person was taken in an MU Health Care ambulance—emergency vehicles including an ambulance, three fire trucks and a police car responded to the scene.  ABC 17

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Irene's, a live-fire restaurant and bar in Columbia, celebrates two years in business by offering a new mezcal from Oaxaca. The restaurant, opened in 2023 by Tim Eisenhauer, Frances Harvey and Joshua Smith, serves shared platters of meals inspired by the Southern U.S., Texas, Mexico and the Caribbean — a sign of its growing success — as it marks its anniversary.  Inside Columbia

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The 97th annual Missouri FFA convention kicked off at the Hearnes Center in Columbia on Wednesday night and will run through Friday—nearly 10,000 people are expected to attend and participate in competitions, leadership events, and statewide officer elections. Students and volunteers are taking part in various activities as the event continues to showcase agricultural education.  KOMU 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Boone County Commission confirmed Wednesday that its recycling drop-off program has been suspended indefinitely after an EF1 tornado destroyed Columbia’s recycling sorting facility Sunday. County officials are collecting drop-off containers and evaluating options to restart the service while the city plans to build a new facility that could take two to three years — no alternative recycling processor is available.  KOMU 8

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Pasta La Fata in the Arcade District has brought back its popular chicken parm for a limited time this week. The sandwich features hand-breaded chicken thighs—fried to order and topped with classic tomato sauce and melted mozzarella—served on freshly baked sesame rolls from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.  Inside Columbia
