- ➤ Columbia authorities charged Shannon Babich with stealing a gun and possessing drug paraphernalia at Thomas Abbey Jr.'s residence, set a $20,000 bond, and noted she is not on the Boone County Jail roster. ABC 17

- ➤ Father Dan Merz from the St. Thomas More Newman Center in Columbia said that after Pope Francis died early Monday, the Catholic Church is now in a nine-day mourning period called Novendiale with his funeral scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. local time+within 15 days, senior church officials will meet to decide what kind of new pope the church needs. - ➤ An EF-1 tornado touched down in Columbia on Easter Sunday, damaging the city landfill, recycling facility and bioenergy plant and causing power outages for thousands while a few dozen customers remained without service. City officials declared an emergency and are assessing damage while coordinating repairs and using mutual aid to restore power and resume recycling operations. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Missouri highway safety officials launched a week-long campaign to promote safe driving in work zones and address distracted driving after Governor Mike Kehoe said his daughters were injured in an incident. - ➤ Columbia declared a disaster on Monday after an EF-1 tornado hit northeast Columbia Sunday, marking only its second emergency declaration in 15 years.
