COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bill Vaughn and Brian Barnett, neighbors in Hartsburg, became friends after both underwent liver transplants at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and got into dirt track racing. They now race together—turning shared hardship into a common passion.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia’s recycling plant—the Material Recovery Facility at the Columbia Landfill, which was nearing the end of its useful life—suffered significant damage Sunday afternoon during a strong storm. Trees fell on homes and over 2,600 customers experienced power outages while officials from Columbia Utilities investigated impacts on recycling pickups.  ABC 17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe storms moved through Mid-Missouri yesterday and today, leaving thousands without power and injuring one person in Callaway County. Boone Electric Cooperative reported nearly 4,000 outages near Hallsville and Columbia — emergency managers sent alerts and crews are checking fallen trees and power lines.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Columbia announced plans to spend more than 80% of the city’s cash reserves by 2031 and will review revenue and expenditure details today before the regular council meeting—ensuring all key financial shifts are discussed.
