- ➤ The Columbia CVB has launched Kick it in CoMo to invite local bars and restaurants to adopt a World Cup team as a gathering spot for fans — sign-ups are open now and the program will create lively hubs during the tournament season. Columbia Daily Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools has appointed Douglass High principal Dr. Eryca Neville as executive director of alternative education. Neville will lead districtwide programming for academic, behavioral and social needs while continuing as principal (since 2011). KOMU 8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two barred owlets rescued during severe Friday storms are recovering at the University of Missouri’s Raptor Rehabilitation Project (one was named Tornado) after rescuers sheltered both animals and staff in the basement until conditions improved. KOMU 8
- ➤ After severe storms hit mid-Missouri Friday and continued into Saturday, local officials reported flooding, downed power lines, and road hazards in several counties. Emergency management agencies and state authorities activated emergency plans and advised residents to avoid flooded or dangerous areas. KOMU 8
- ➤ Residents in central Missouri faced heavy storms on Friday, April 18 as strong winds knocked down trees and power lines, leaving Stover without power until Saturday evening and causing property damage in Jefferson City (neighbors helped clear debris). KRCG
