- ➤ Today, the Mid-Missouri Corvette Club raised over $20,000 for the Dream Factory that helps chronically and terminally ill children make their dreams come true during its Corvette Cup celebration. The event marked 29 years of charity work and provided a 13-year-old with a trip to a Chiefs game and a 17-year-old with a visit to Alaska. KRCG
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Senate passed a bill on Thursday that lets school districts choose national accreditation agencies in addition to the State Board of Education—schools will now post performance data online as required. The bill now moves to the House and must pass before the legislative session ends in less than a month. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ The University of Missouri broke ground on the Michael L. Parson Meat Science Education and Training Laboratory on Friday in Columbia with extra funding from Burgers’ Smokehouse. The lab will open in 2026 and will update and combine the old abattoir and Don Naumann Muscle Foods Processing Laboratory (the Mizzou Meat Market) to boost Missouri agriculture. ABC 17
- ➤ The University of Missouri held two ceremonies Friday in Columbia to celebrate new facilities for its College of Agriculture–Food and Natural Resources and its College of Veterinary Medicine. The events took place at 1024 Ashland Road from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at 1520 East Rollins Street from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with speakers including former governor Mike Parson, university president Mun Choi, and Governor Mike Kehoe. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nebraska Avenue in Central Columbia will close Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. east of Providence Road—crews will install new pipes as part of a project to replace storm drains and add inlets to reduce flooding while all drive approaches remain open. ABC 17
- ➤ Boone County broke ground on a $5 million public safety child care center for sheriff’s office and 911 dispatch employees on Friday, marking the first center in the country built for law enforcement workers. County leaders said the center will serve up to 100 children — a move to ease child care challenges — and is planned to open by mid‑2026. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe was sworn in to a second term on Monday evening after defeating businessman Blair Murphy by over 4,000 votes—she thanked voters at a City Hall reception. Buffaloe emphasized the strong turnout amid plans to address recent violence in the community—officials expect new measures to be discussed soon. KRCG
