- ➤ The City of Columbia and the Columbia Housing Authority hosted Rigel Oliveri (a former DOJ trial attorney and Missouri Law professor) to discuss fair and affordable housing during National Fair Housing Month. The agency has served nearly 2,000 households daily as it marks its 70th anniversary. KRCG
- ➤ The Sustain Mizzou clothing swap will take place at Lowry Mall on Wednesday, Apr. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; everyone is invited to refresh their wardrobe sustainably + exchange gently used garments. Columbia Missourian

ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Smoke from an HVAC handler caused a large fire department response at the Missouri Psychiatric Center connected to University Hospital early Wednesday, and no evacuation occurred. Twenty firefighters cleared the scene (just before 9:30 a.m.) near the children's emergency room entrance. ABC 17

- ➤ MU Extension explains that gardening with kids builds confidence, creativity, and stronger family bonds. The program provides simple tips to help local families nurture plants and skills at home. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation proposes reducing the nonresident buck limit to 1 beginning in 2026 and planning a $165 permit for public land deer hunting next year — balancing opportunities for residents and visitors. Public comments remain open until April 20. KOMU 8
- ➤ Boone County's Family Access Center of Excellence (FACE) must cut its $1.6 million budget for fall, 2027 to focus on key child support programs. The Children's Services board said there will be no service disruptions this year, though other programs may face cuts later. ABC 17
- ➤ AAA Missouri’s study shows that 1 in 10 fatal crashes between 2014 and 2024 involved distracted driving, leading to 1,058 deaths. Since Missouri’s Hands-Free Law began on Jan. 1, Highway Patrol has issued over 4,000 citations and urges drivers to pull off if they need to use their phone. KOMU 8
