- ➤ Shangri-La Dispensary customers donated over 1,111 pounds of herbs, spices and food to support the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri VIP Veteran Pack program at its Columbia and Jefferson City locations—donations will be accepted through Sunday. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Three puppies trapped in a Coleman cooler near Columbia were rescued by Second Chance Animal Shelter on March 17. Coleman USA later provided the shelter with merchandise and a new cooler on April 13 after the shelter tagged the brand on social media. KRCG
- ➤ The Voluntary Action Center (VAC) will change its summer-long air conditioner exchange program into a one-day event on May 21 to help low-income families in Boone County. Customers of Columbia Water and Light or Boone Electric Cooperative will need to bring a recent electric bill (and their old unit) when they schedule an appointment so the City can recycle old units. - ➤ Shots rang out at a college party at Cosmopolitan Park on Saturday, injuring two students and leaving broken benches and glass behind while (Jonathan Edmonson and Taryn Lewis) said the event has deeply affected them and will change how they plan to attend campus gatherings. KOMU 8
- ➤ Michael Whited, 59, allegedly threatened a woman walking her dog at 6:50 a.m. Friday and barricaded himself in an apartment at Ash Street Place Apartments, leading to a 10-hour standoff that ended with his arrest—he now faces charges of terrorist threat, resisting arrest, and assault and no injuries were reported. - ➤ A Columbia man, Jadon G. Gooldy, 20, was arrested and is in jail after he fired a gun during a parking lot gathering near ABC Supply Saturday—witnesses say he fired after a racial slur and shrapnel from his shot scratched someone’s leg while he now faces charges for first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action and fourth-degree assault.
