- ➤ Columbia Parks and Recreation asked the city manager to formalize a long-time partnership with Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association to bring families to the ARC for events offering food, snacks + gym access. - ➤ Columbia-based Redbud VC launched its second fund of $25 million & secured diversified support from investors statewide. The firm plans to boost local innovation efforts with the new capital. Columbia Missourian
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Columbia’s Office of Cultural Affairs is inviting local visual artists to license existing artwork for traffic signal boxes — applications remain open until 5 p.m. May 11 and approved pieces will earn a $500 licensing fee. Columbia Daily Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Columbia robotics team won a SpaceX award at an Alabama competition (a recognition for advancing respect and appreciation for engineering), marking a proud moment for local innovators. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ The Columbia Board of Education will review a proposal on Monday to raise employee salaries and enhance benefits while considering a new role for alternative education and cutting three positions to free up funds. The adjustments would increase average pay and shift the operating budget. ABC 17
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools reported 2,628 cellphone referrals so far this school year, a decrease from 3,185 reported the previous year after implementing a cellphone free policy required by Senate Bill 68 signed by Gov. Mike Kehoe. ABC 17
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The University of Missouri’s Center for Regenerative Agriculture received a $3.7M grant from the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation and will expand its virtual fencing program across 150,000 acres in Missouri and Nebraska. The system uses specialized collars to guide and monitor cattle grazing within digital boundaries. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The northbound on & off ramps at U.S. 63 and Grindstone Parkway/New Haven Road will close Monday, Apr. 20 for construction work that will build a new northbound loop ramp and off ramp; connected roadways are slated to reopen by the end of June, weather permitting. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Regional Airport will complete phase one of north parking improvements by June after City Council approved a $13.1 million investment that includes 250 new parking spaces & enhanced drainage and paving, with bids concluding in late April. KOMU 8
