ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday at 3:22 p.m., Osage Fire Protection District and Cole County EMS extricated one passenger from a pickup truck that ran off the road and hit trees in the 11000 block of State Route B—using a low-angle rope rescue—and four others were taken in stable condition to University Hospital in Columbia while the driver declined treatment.  KOMU 8

CRIME NEWS

  • Since Friday, five people were injured in three shootings in Columbia as a bullet ricocheted on Maguire Boulevard, two were shot at Cosmo Park during a large gathering on Saturday, and two were shot early Sunday downtown when police detained two juveniles.  KRCG
  • Two people were seriously injured in a shooting at Cosmopolitan Park — authorities are investigating the incident.  Columbia Missourian
  • Columbia leaders responded to three shooting incidents over the weekend that injured five people — the first on Maguire Boulevard Friday night, the second at Cosmo Park Saturday with one person critically injured and another seriously injured, and the third on East Broadway early Sunday when two adults were hospitalized and two juvenile boys were detained.  KOMU 8
  • Callaway County Sheriff's office is investigating a shooting that took place Sunday afternoon at the Hunter Lane Apartments outside of Holts Summit—residents are asked to avoid traveling on Hunter Lane while officials secure the scene and confirm no known threat to public safety.  KOMU 8
  • A violent weekend in Columbia saw a shooting at Cosmo Park on Saturday that left one person critically injured and another seriously hurt, a downtown incident early Sunday that injured two men and resulted in the arrest of two minors, and a Friday shooting in south Columbia that left another person with a minor injury—while in Callaway County a shooting left one person dead and another critically injured.  ABC 17

  • All lanes on Interstate 70 in Columbia are open after MoDOT crews removed an exit ramp ahead of schedule—avoiding the long delays they had expected over the weekend.  KOMU 8
  • Incumbent Mayor Barbara Buffaloe was re-elected for a second term on April 8 — she discussed crime and her plans for Columbia's future in an interview with KOMU 8's John Murphy — as she prepares to lead the city forward.  KOMU 8
  • Today, the CPS board will welcome new members and gather feedback on special education while voting on salary schedules and a bargaining agreement with the teacher's union. The board’s decisions will affect staff policies and contract terms moving forward.  Columbia Missourian
