COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Hartsburg community held the Ride For B memorial poker run Saturday morning to honor Bailey Gipson, a Southern Boone High School student whose legacy lives on. Proceeds will cover hospital and funeral costs as well as fund scholarships for her senior classmates. KOMU 8
- ➤ Jeanne Marshall, a longtime leader at Easterseals Midwest since 1987, will become CEO on May 1 while Wendy Sullivan remains until June 30 to support the transition (announcement). Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Maintenance worker Alex Cason earned his HVAC diploma from Job Point and started his first full-time job at Oak Towers last fall - a role that keeps senior housing running smoothly. His work was recognized with an Award of Excellence by the nonprofit. KOMU 8
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Columbia launched the CoMo Brick and Mortar Project on Sunday to promote historic architecture by installing QR code window clings on six downtown buildings. The project—led by CoMo Preservation with help from The District and the Office of Cultural Affairs—aims to boost local tourism and inspire creative reuse of these sites. KOMU 8

- ➤ The CoMo Brick & Mortar project will offer programs to share local history with residents and remind us of the town's heritage, as co-founder Dee Wasman said preserving our stories is vital in a transient college town. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Today, the Columbia Public Schools board will review a capital projects plan for school upgrades, consider compensation proposals increasing the budget, and propose a new alternative education position — recently elected board members will be sworn in and state championship athletes recognized. - ➤ Drivers cannot use the St. Charles Road bridge to access I-70 today as MoDOT wrapped up demolition at 6 a.m. and traffic has been rerouted to on-ramps. Columbia Public Schools and MoDOT advise extra caution during peak school hours — commuters should plan alternate routes while construction continues through September. ABC 17
