COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The community gathered to honor the memory of Aiden Taylor, a boy whose brave battle with cancer touched many and changed how some view life — a celebration that brought neighbors together in remembrance.  Columbia Missourian
  • Community members gathered on Saturday for Cleanup Columbia to remove trash from streets, trails, streams and parks in the 29th annual event. The city provided trash bags and gloves—120 groups joined the cleanup and a luncheon was held at City Hall to thank volunteers.  KOMU 8

CRIME NEWS

  • Columbia police arrested Michael Whited, 59, from a residence in the 100 block of North Stadium Boulevard on April 11 after an hours-long standoff when he allegedly threatened people with a weapon — he now faces charges for Fourth-Degree Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest.  KRCG
  • Today early in the morning near Ninth Street and Broadway in downtown Columbia—six shots were fired and police say one person was injured and taken to the hospital while another was detained.  KOMU 8
  • Two adults were hospitalized and two juveniles detained after six shots were fired early this morning on the 900 block of East Broaodway near the corner of Ninth Street and Broadway — police said there is no public threat.  KOMU 8
  • Two people were shot at Cosmopolitan Park Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. with one in critical condition and the other seriously injured (police said no suspect is in custody).  KOMU 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traffic on eastbound I-70 in Columbia slowed Saturday as MoDOT crews demolished the westbound exit ramp to Business Loop 70 as part of the ongoing Improve I-70 project, forcing vehicles into one narrow lane near Paris Road — adding roughly 10 minutes to commutes. MoDOT said the closed section will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday.  ABC 17

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New data showed that Boone County home prices went up in January to $300,750 from December’s $279,513—a 7.6% increase, while recorded home sales jumped 65% from last January to total $38.9 million.  Columbia Daily Tribune
