BUSINESS NEWS

  • DaDa Donër opened in May 2024 after one phone call convinced owner Vahap Ulker to transition his food truck to a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Broadway. The restaurant—located one floor below other stores—faces low exposure as it nears its first anniversary while Ulker plans to share Turkish culture.  KOMU 8

CRIME NEWS

  • At 8:30 a.m. Friday, Columbia police responded to a report of a man threatening people with a weapon in the 100 block of North Stadium Boulevard — he went inside his home — and officers have since tried to contact him.  KRCG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Construction crews plan to replace two electric water pumps at Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area this month to fix wetland pools and restore a levee breach—officials say water levels will be affected once pumping from the Missouri River stops. Access to the Missouri River parking lot will be closed for safety during the work, and construction is scheduled to finish this fall.  KOMU 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Boone County Office of Emergency Management purchased two automatic sandbagging machines to lessen flood damage. They are stationed in Hartsburg and Rocheport along the Missouri River — the machines can be moved by forklift with a setup time of 15 minutes if needed.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia Housing Authority announced on April 7 that a $50,000 grant will fund planned renovations at Patriot Place Apartments, which houses veterans experiencing homelessness and offers supportive services through Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. The funding will cover a new coat of exterior paint—CHA is working to secure extra funds for HVAC and additional upgrades.  Columbia Daily Tribune
