- ➤ Deazes Turner, 22, pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree felony murder and armed criminal action in the Dove Drive shooting that killed 33-year-old Deshon Houston on June 26, 2023 — he received a 21-year sentence with credit for time served while six other suspects remain under investigation. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Home Builders’ Association of Columbia and the City of Columbia hosted the first Careers Under Construction event at the old Boone County Fairgrounds where high school juniors and seniors learned about construction jobs through VR displays and other exhibits — a program aimed at boosting the local workforce. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MoDOT will demolish the ramp from westbound I-70 to Business Loop 70 in Columbia today starting at 7:00 p.m. and will close one lane on eastbound I-70—causing up to 30-minute delays until 6:00 a.m. Monday—to improve traffic flow as part of a larger I-70 upgrade project. ABC 17
- ➤ MoDOT will demolish a bridge and close lanes on I-70 in Columbia tonight at 7 p.m.—work that is expected to cause 30-minute delays and force drivers to use alternative routes through Monday morning. The demolition is part of a $2.8 billion project to upgrade I-70. KRCG
- ➤ Business owners and workers rallied in Columbia and other cities on Thursday to support the paid sick leave part of Proposition A—voters backed the measure last November even as House Bill 567 sought to remove it. Protesters said they fought to keep these benefits intact—claiming that cutting them would hurt workers who need time off when ill. KOMU 8
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Revenue is urging residents to obtain a Real ID before May 7 because after that date travelers will need one for domestic flights instead of a regular driver’s license.
