COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lizzi & Rocco's South will host Social Enrichment Hour on Wednesday, April 15 with two sessions for puppies and developing dogs, focusing on socialization, puzzles & training. Registration costs $30.  Inside Columbia
  • Diventures, the local dive shop, is hosting SCUBAFEST from April 14 through April 19 (during regular business hours) at 1414B Rangeline St., offering special sales, gear demos, beginner scuba classes, and giveaways.  Inside Columbia
  • City officials announced 10 winners—selected from 23 applicants—of the Love Your Block grant program to boost improvements near downtown. The awards will fund local projects and strengthen community ties.  Columbia Missourian

BUSINESS NEWS

  • JBS Foods said Thursday that its bacon plant in Moberly will reopen soon after pausing production for engineering improvements following a USDA safety citation issued Friday (the citation was not related to foodborne illness).  ABC 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Glenn's Cafe will host a Dinner & Wine event Tuesday at 7 p.m. where guests can savor a four-course meal featuring wines from notable female producers, with dishes crafted by the executive chef and pairings explained by a visiting sommelier; tickets cost $100 per guest plus $25 for wine pairings.  Inside Columbia
  • Warm Springs Ranch will host the never-before-public Parade of Champions on May 9-10 starting at 9:30 a.m. Guests will see Budweiser Clydesdales with live demonstrations, stable tours, and all-inclusive food-drink options at the event.  KRCG

  • After winning a pre-collegiate music competition last month, two Columbia students will perform as soloists in the Odyssey Chamber Music Series’ Triple Concerto of Beethoven - an exciting event showcasing local talent.  Columbia Missourian

  • The Columbia Office of Violence Prevention met with the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform to outline a 24‐month project including a gun violence study and the new NoCAP initiative (Neighborhood Opportunity and Community Accountability Proconsul) that will ask residents what resources they need.  KOMU 8
  • The Columbia Housing Authority announced it will replace roofs on all 35 Bear Creek duplex units for nearly $448,000 — also upgrading sidewalks and accessibility near the community building to improve safety and quality of life for residents.  ABC 17
  • The St. Charles Road bridge over I-70 in Columbia will close today (7 p.m.) until Monday (6 a.m.) for demolition, reducing lanes and prompting detours with expected delays along Exit 131.  KOMU 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ai‑Ling Lin — vice chair of research at MU School of Medicine — received a $3.4 million NIH grant to study how gut health may influence Alzheimer’s disease; her team plans to test treatment options and restore a healthier gut through 2030.  KOMU 8
