CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Deazez Turner, 22, charged with first‑degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action in the fatal June 2023 Dove Drive shooting that killed 33‑year‑old Deshon Houston, appeared for a status hearing yesterday at 9 a.m. at the Boone County Courthouse—he maintains his not guilty plea. - ➤ Justin Bradley Durham, a former Phelps County deputy from Rolla, pleaded guilty last year to federal child sex crimes and was sentenced to 65 years in prison and ordered to pay $79,160 as the Department of Justice said he admitted to exchanging explicit videos and engaging in sex acts with a minor after his arrest in August 2023. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Columbia City Council approved a $586,742 contract with Axon to provide new in-car cameras, body-worn camera signaling software, and expanded digital evidence storage for the police department. The new system will be integrated in 90—120 days and is expected to save about $330,000 per year over five years. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Housing Authority received $50,000 from the Veterans United Foundation to begin renovating Patriot Place, an apartment complex with 25 permanent homes and services for veterans in the HUD-VASH program. The renovations will include new paint and updates for heating, ventilation and air conditioning to improve living conditions. KOMU 8

- ➤ MU Health Care infectious disease expert Dr. Amruta Padhye urges parents to vaccinate children with the MMR vaccine as measles cases have increased nationwide and Kansas confirmed 24 cases while Missouri has remained measles-free. She explained that vitamin A supplements are not a cure and have caused toxicity when used improperly — a concern heightened by declining school immunization rates in mid-Missouri counties. ABC 17
