- ➤ The city invites Missouri residents aged 18+ to enter the Capture Columbia photo contest by submitting pictures of landmarks until 5 p.m. April 30. Top entries will be chosen by the finance department, with public voting from May 6-10 and winners featured in the 2027 city budget. Columbia Daily Tribune

- ➤ At the Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Membership Breakfast on April 3, five local businesses were recognized as finalists for Small Business of the Year, with the winner to be named at the conclusion of Small Business Week (May 4-7). Inside Columbia

- ➤ Battle High is hosting its annual Battle for the Ages fundraiser to support school events and students; the event is organized by Spartan Alliance (the high school’s version of a PTA) and will bring the community together soon. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Student leaders from five multicultural organizations held a town hall Monday night at Mizzou to voice concerns after recent funding cuts. They called on university officials to boost support for multicultural programs. Columbia Missourian
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Public Library will plant over 10 native prairie and woodland species as part of a sustainability project at its facility. The initiative is set to boost local biodiversity in the community. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Columbia will host several Earth Month celebrations for residents to learn, experience and celebrate sustainability. The events will be held at local venues throughout the month. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Columbia City Council approved a new Downtown Ambassador Program to boost safety downtown — the $504,390.03 annual cost is split equally among the city, MU, and the Downtown Community Improvement District. The unarmed ambassadors will patrol on foot and by bicycle and help with outreach today. ABC 17
- ➤ Construction of the Public Safety Childcare Center for Boone County first responders fell a month behind schedule due to winter weather and is now set to open in August. The 10,000 sqft facility will initially serve 24 children (with plans to expand to 96) and support local public safety families. KOMU 8

- ➤ Columbia College will host a free naloxone education and distribution event on Apr. 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Bixby Auditorium at the Brouder Science Center, offering training on spotting opioid overdoses and using Narcan. Columbia Daily Tribune
