- ➤ Serendipity Salon and Art Gallery will launch the Farm and Art Market at the North Village Arts District on Sunday at 9 a.m. following the end of Orr Street Farm and Art Market last season, and the market will run every Sunday until December 14 featuring produce, art, food, and live music from local vendors. - ➤ Columbia Farmers Market will begin its 45th season Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon under the MU Health Care Pavilion at the COMO Ag Park—offering new vendors and local favorites like fresh produce, meat, eggs, cheese, honey, flowers, plants and handmade goods—and will feature live music, free kids activities, food trucks and a match of up to $35 in SNAP and WIC benefits. - ➤ An 18-year-old man from Columbia (Jermarion Burnett-Howard) pleaded guilty to felony murder and was given 24 years in prison for killing 72-year-old Janet Jago outside her home. ABC 17
- ➤ A Columbia man, Jermarion Burnett-Howard, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of Janet Jago during a robbery in the Highlands neighborhood in May 2023. Columbia Missourian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Shelly Sconce will become the new principal of Southern Boone High School on July 1—she was approved by the school board on April 3. She served as assistant principal for two years and will replace retiring Dale Van Deven. KRCG
- ➤ Federal cuts to the National Endowment for Humanities on Tuesday left MU professors and staff uncertain—potentially delaying planned renovation projects and affecting future humanities programs. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, US-63 traffic between Conley Road and Broadway will shift to the southbound lanes in a head-to-head configuration — a change that lets crews begin northbound bridge construction.
