COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Columbia is set to host a new farm and art market organized by Serendipity Salon and Gallery after the former Orr Street market closed in 2024 after 14 years. The market will begin on April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday through Dec. 14 at 1020 E. Walnut St.—it will feature four vendor types—with food trucks and live music.  Inside Columbia

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Trail Stop Brewery officially opened yesterday (April 1) on a once-empty lot in Columbia and now offers craft beer, food, and pickleball for local guests. The brewery sits off a busy roundabout (near the MKT trail) and is part of an area that saw rapid growth with new homes and schools.  KOMU 8
  • Mid America Bank held its grand opening in Columbia on March 13 and marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce—showing its commitment to innovative financial solutions and community focus. The new branch is located at 4601 Stellar Drive.  Inside Columbia

CRIME NEWS

  • Columbia teen Ja'Mez Thompson-Bey, 17, was charged with six felonies after he allegedly tried to rob two men in a vehicle and fired multiple rounds into it on November 24th on Clark Lane, injuring both men and himself and leading to his detention without bond in Boone County Jail.  KOMU 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local doula Anna Page said music and birth work together after her own tough birthing experience helped her heal. Former Miss Missouri Shelby Ringdahl and others said music helped them bond with their babies and ease emotions during childbirth—experts say it remains a universal tool for healing.  COMO Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A person needing help outside Rock Bridge High School led to a large emergency response Tuesday on the school's south side. Columbia Public Schools sent a text message around noon to alert families — some staff helped — and classes continued as normal.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbia will hold its third town hall meeting on April 14 at the Daniel Boone City Building in conference rooms 1A/1B to explain how the city plans and budgets for capital improvements and infrastructure projects—residents must sign up online for either the morning session from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or the evening session from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will also feature a Q&A and interactive educational games to help explain the budget process.  KOMU 8
  • The Boone County Office of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service will host a free storm spotter class on April 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Boone County Sheriff Annex (2111 County Drive) in Columbia. Registration is not required and the course will cover thunderstorm development, storm structure and key weather features for volunteer reporting.  Columbia Daily Tribune

  • Today, Platinum Paws owner Melodi Wisswell (with over 10 years of grooming experience) uses safe pet dyes to give dogs fun, colorful looks that attract many neighbors. Her work on Bellatrix (a Bernedoodle) took hours to complete and a new design for another dog will be shown at the Business in Motion Expo later this month.  COMO Magazine
