COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eight runners completed the first Casey's Brekkie Run on Saturday morning—a 19-mile loop that stopped at four Casey's locations in Columbia. Organizer Beth Shepherd said the event, inspired by her brother-in-law, celebrated Casey's breakfast pizza in a fun, low-barrier way.  KOMU 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews will clean the exterior windows at the Fifth and Walnut Parking Garage at 500 E. Walnut St. at 6 a.m. Monday (weather permitting). Road closures and lane shifts will affect North Fifth Street and sidewalks, with work projected to finish by 5 p.m.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia Public Works will begin roadwork on Rogers Street in front of Jefferson Middle School at 7 a.m. Monday, closing one lane for concrete repair, and will work on Forum Boulevard near Crestwood Lane at 7 a.m. Thursday with lane shifts and traffic message boards until 5 p.m., weather permitting.  KOMU 8
  • Missouri lawmakers are trying to bring driver's education back to public high schools with House Bill 2195, noting only 7% of schools offer these courses. If passed, schools will adopt free safety programs provided by professional groups (according to bill sponsors) to improve teen driving skills.  KOMU 8

  • Columbia College will demolish several historic properties this spring (officials said no new buildings are planned), a move that will change the landscape of the campus.  Columbia Missourian
