COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Columbia awarded $26,982 in state tourism funding to 16 organizations for Juneteenth events; organizers will attend a workshop at 5:30 p.m. Mar. 31 at the Walton Building to learn grant use and reporting requirements. Columbia Daily Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mizzou named Jody Mitori as chief marketing and communications officer today to lead marketing efforts across the university and UM System plus she replaces John Middleton after returning from WashU Medicine. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ A two-day German studies conference held Friday and Saturday featured speakers discussing art, including topics like Communist art and socialist realism in historic Germany. Mizzou professors hosted the event to offer students a unique academic exchange at the campus and in St. Louis. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools is planning budget cuts due to flat state funding and changes in local property tax. At a March 9 meeting, officials said they are preparing measures to save costs — including reduced transportation aid and delayed maintenance. Columbia Daily Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hummingbirds will begin to arrive from early to mid-April, so residents can prepare by setting out feeders and planting native, brightly colored tubular flowers (such as cardinal flower) to welcome the ruby-throated hummingbird. Columbia Daily Tribune
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Former school buildings are being turned into affordable housing, with the Benton project creating 17 apartments & a commercial kitchen in Marshall, Tannehill set to open on March 19 in Moberly with 40 senior units, and the Carver project completed in Fulton with 33 units. ABC 17
