ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, March 14th, during severe thunderstorms, the Columbia Fire Department responded to 77 calls including two house fires where 12 crews fought heavy flames on Navahoe Avenue and 11 crews managed a similar blaze on Elleta Boulevard—both fires were contained within 15 minutes with no injuries. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missourians protested Friday outside the Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City to protect the jobs of Veterans Affairs workers amid concerns over severe cutbacks—protestors said improved planning is needed to secure vital services for veterans. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Public Works is seeking public input on design diagrams for an Ash Street improvement project that began in 2022. A public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Activity and Recreation Center to help shape plans for future construction. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Residents attended a community summit in Columbia to offer their input on city initiatives. Booths were arranged by each goal of the city's Strategic Plan. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Fourteen officers in training graduated Friday (March 14th) from Columbia Police Department's first in-house class as family, friends and community members watched the ceremony. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ On Friday night, Boone County Fire Protection District deployed its Disaster Situation Awareness and Reconnaissance team to Piedmont in response to a statewide fire mutual aid request. The team worked with local incident management teams (Missouri State Emergency Management Agency and State Emergency Operations Center) before returning to Boone County late Saturday evening. KOMU 8
