CRIME NEWS

  • A Columbia woman, Kelly Smith, is charged with trespassing and armed criminal action after allegedly blocking a resident’s car at Parkside Manor—she reportedly used racial slurs, spat on him, and released her pitbull to attack him.  KRCG
  • Gabriel Paddock, 25, was arrested Thursday in Columbia and charged with assault, resisting arrest, and escape after he threatened a police officer at the Boone County Library—he later bit the officer’s finger and tried to flee custody.  KRCG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kehoe ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset in Cooper County — at firehouses statewide and the Missouri Fire Fighters Memorial in Kingdom City — to honor late Deputy Chief Donald Kammerich, who died at his home after battling natural cover fires on March 10. As the order takes effect today, communities are invited to remember his decades of service.  KRCG
  • Boone County Emergency Management officials advise residents to follow a tornado safety plan by identifying safe spots such as a basement or, if none is available, a center hallway or low-lying area—residents in vehicles should exit to the nearest ditch and tune in to local media for updates. Officials say having a clear plan may protect lives during the fast-moving storms expected in mid-Missouri.  KRCG
  • The Columbia/Boone County Board of Health has rescheduled its meeting on feral cat ordinances from March 13th to April 10th at 5:30 p.m.—officials will gather public input on proposed changes that include a new definition for feral cat colonies and adjustments to microchip and virus testing rules. Residents must submit comments by 4 p.m. April 7.  KOMU 8
