BUSINESS NEWS

  • Clementine’s Ice Cream will open its new Columbia shop at 914 East Broadway this spring—expanding locally after signing a deal with Schnucks to sell its ice cream in about 30 stores, and it plans two Kansas City locations later this year.  KOMU 8
  • Sports wagering launched in Missouri on Dec. 1 and bettors placed $543 million; FanDuel and DraftKings earned about $120 million in profits—roughly three times their campaign cost.  KOMU 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Missouri's Memorial Student Union hosted the Columbia Young Scientists Expo on Saturday, where families experienced hands-on STEM experiments led by UM professors & researchers. The free event aimed to spark children's interest in science through interactive displays.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia College will honor President David Russell’s legacy when it opens the Lee and David Russell Heritage Center (April 23).  Columbia Missourian
  • Two members of the Boys + Girls Clubs of Columbia will compete at the state level in April in Jefferson City. They will represent their club in a national competition that highlights local talent.  Columbia Missourian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Boone County Office of Emergency Management will join Missouri’s statewide tornado drill on March 4 at 11 a.m.—a key part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week that will sound outdoor warning sirens and activate NOAA Weather Radios, while urging schools and households to review safety protocols.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia, Boone County officials and the University of Missouri are asking for comments on their updated Stormwater Management plan. A public meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on April 2 at Daniel Boone City Building (701 E. Broadway) and online feedback will be accepted through April 10.  KOMU 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community members attended the Winter Well-Being Expo at the Activity and Recreation Center where Boone Health offered free blood pressure and A1C tests on Saturday—over 25 screenings occurred. Walk-in screenings are set for March 4 at the 4-H Building in Mexico and March 19 at the Activity and Recreation Center.  KOMU 8
