COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents at Westbury Senior Living celebrated a wedding Friday when Dave, 92, and Jackie, 82, tied the knot in a mini church — a setting with a handmade Holy Cross that marked their lasting commitment; the couple will move to a larger apartment next week.  KOMU 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Culver’s filed a permit to build a new location on Pebbles Parkway for the Grindstone Commercial Plat. The $2.7 million building permit, filed on Feb. 17, is set for review on March 3 while the chain operates two restaurants in Columbia.  ABC 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Shops at Sharp End will host a Black history discussion (organized by Columbia's Southern Christian Leader Conference) that is free and open to everyone. Locals may join to engage in a community conversation about their heritage.  Columbia Missourian
  • Stephens College will host its 82nd annual Collections fashion show on April 25 at 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m. in the Windsor Auditorium. The student event centers on the theme Interwoven and features sustainable design and diverse collections inspired by personal passion.  Inside Columbia
  • At Orr Street Studios, the Walking Art Fashion Show celebrates Black culture and honors legacies (including key figures Kenny Greene and Dawn Warren) in an event highlighting local creativity.  Columbia Missourian
  • Missouri residents may see a blood moon during a total lunar eclipse starting at 3 a.m. CT on Tuesday, March 3 with peak illumination at 5:30 a.m. CT, although heavy clouds are forecast statewide (areas near Branson might offer clearer skies).  Columbia Daily Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Columbia Regional Airport handled 242,167 passengers in 2025, a record 17% increase from 2024. It will launch new nonstop routes to Orlando, Charlotte and Destin in early June + nearly 300,000 seats are scheduled in 2026.  KRCG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbia College and Central Christian College of the Bible have announced a dual degree partnership — the program lets CCCB students earn a Bachelor of General Studies while completing biblical studies coursework. Students can specialize in high-demand fields such as management, marketing, cybersecurity and psychology.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia College held a clap-out on Feb. 27 at St. Clair Hall (after a pizza party at Dulany Dining Hall) for its 18th President Dr. David Russell as staff and students cheered his farewell. He retired after serving since 2020 and will be succeeded by Dr. Toby Arquette.  KRCG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City staff plans to upgrade the historic McKinney Building into a flexible cultural facility with new office space for Cultural Affairs. The redevelopment proposal — estimated at $4.1 million — will be reviewed at an April 6 council work session to decide design and funding.  KOMU 8
  • MoDOT reopened North Outer Road 70 near Sallees Creek (just west of Kingdom City) Friday following a culvert replacement project; the road will be closed again for about a week when final work begins.  KOMU 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Boone Health Nifong Primary Care Center marked its 10th anniversary in Columbia as CEO Brady Dubois said the center continues expanding services to keep mid-Missouri healthy.  Columbia Missourian
  • Copper Kettle in Ashland will have a follow-up health inspection Wednesday, March 4 after a report noted nine violations including cross-contamination from using one cutting board for raw and ready-to-eat foods and expired items in coolers (plus dishwasher concerns require repair).  ABC 17
  • Frozen meatballs sold at Aldi have been recalled after nearly 10,000 pounds were pulled due to potential metal fragments found by a customer; shoppers in Missouri should return+ discard affected 32 oz bags.  Columbia Daily Tribune
